Never Ending Memories

Throughout my day there are many texts that I enjoy and interact with, music being one of them. Who doesn’t love listening to music? Whether it be pump up music getting you ready for your game, calming tone music to help you study or write papers, vibey lyrical upbeat summer beach music, or intense music to help you work out. The point is there are so many different genres of music that there are endless ways music can help or impact you. I use music every single day for many different situations and am very familiar with a wide variety of music. One song in particular that hits home with me is the song “Memories” by David Guetta.

I am very passionate about friendships and the memories me best friends and I create together. Experiences that I have gone through in my life have shown me how blessed I truly am. My family, my friends, and the town I grew up in have impacted me the most and made me who I am today. The last days of summer were when the emotions were starting to power over everyone’s egos. This past summer was my most memorable and life changing summer of them all.   All those people knew college was upon us and our time to go off and become our own person was now. Our never ending summer and the memories that came with it had come to an end. “Memories” by David Guetta was our theme song of the entire summer. This song is meant to be played at a party or when you’re with a group of buddies. It’s purpose is to let us let loose and create memories with each other that we will have for eternity. Guetta opens with a dancing beat and sets the tone early in the song, even before saying any lyrics he makes people want to dance and let loose. An example of Ethos or moment of opportunity comes again at the beginning of the song when he sings “I just wanna let it go for the night, That would be the best therapy for me”. The use of rhetoric here shows that there are multiple benefits from letting loose and having fun, not just memories. Based on the first verse people realize that Guetta is a credible source and is speaking from real life experiences when he says letting loose and having can be beneficial.

DJ David Guetta collaborated with rapper Kid Cudi and created this upbeat vibey let loose and have a good time song. Lyrically, the song is about having a good time no matter what, and keeping that time as a memory that’s worth remembering. Guetta being a well known DJ throughout the world and having countless hit songs that millions listen to, he knows as well as everyone who listens to his music knows he has an impact on people. The public knows how good he is and his music has made him immensely popular, he has 8.4 million followers on instagram and is such a big name that his fans and listeners have the assurance of his credibility. Guetta’s reputation and well known music is his ethos. Guetta’s moment of opportunity to inspire listeners and show ethos comes at the beginning of the song when he sings “I just wanna let it go for the night, That would be the best therapy for me”. The use of rhetoric here shows that there are multiple benefits from letting loose and having fun, not just memories. Based on the first verse people realize that Guetta is a credible source and is speaking from real life experiences when he says letting loose and having can be beneficial.

Many times when you hear a particular song or beat it takes you back and reminds you of some memories. When I hear this song it takes me back and I picture this past summer on the beach with my friends and we are dancing and having fun, memories that will last a lifetime. The memories and feeling this song brings out of individuals is Guetta`s goal with this song, and it is also the pathos produced by this song. “All the crazy shit I did tonight, those will be the best memories”. This verse is saying when you are living it up having the time of your life with your buddies those are going to be the best memories. Personally when I hear that verse it appeals to my emotions because all of my best buddies and I are at separate colleges and do not have the opportunity for those nights anymore.

I think the beat behind the lyrics is the main rhetorical factor in this song. The beat is a constant throughout and the having fun mood that it creates does more for me than the actual lyrics of the words. The beat is more of a house, electronic dance music beat. My friends and I love to interact with house and electronic dance music, house and edm music are primarily used in many clubs and party situations, my friends and I use it for those type of situations because the beat loosens us up and makes us start dancing which then puts a smile on our faces and makes us laugh. Those little moments to me are what make this world go around. It is at those times when life is at its simplest form, just pure fun. The pathos we express between one another are the little moments that many individuals take for granted, life is oh so short and sweet and it is a goal of mine to never take those little moments between friends that bring smiles to our faces for granted. Those emotions that this song brings out of us is the pathos in which the artist David Guetta is trying to show off. Guetta intends for this song to bring out our emotions and let us make memories that will last a lifetime.

The rhetorical concepts Guetta includes in the beat and lyrics showcases to everyone listening why he chose this beat and the purpose of the song as a whole, producing the sell out areas across the globe and the reputation of David Guetta as a DJ. “Memories” lets us take a break from everyday reality and allows us to go back to memories that make us happy and reminds us that lifes too short to go through it without having fun.
